Atiku: Maybe He Eyes $55bn Tinubu Saved, Thinking If Elected He Can Dip Hands To Pay Subsidy-Morka
According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Arise News on Sunday, October 4, 2026, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Felix Morka, criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his position on fuel subsidy and the Nigerian economy.
Morka said Atiku’s proposal to restore subsidy showed a lack of understanding of the financial implications involved in maintaining such a policy. He argued that subsidy requires significant government funding and questioned how Atiku intended to finance it if elected president.
The APC spokesperson suggested that Atiku could be relying on Nigeria’s foreign reserves to fund subsidy payments. He said, "Maybe he is looking at the $55 billion President Tinubu has amassed in our foreign affairs, thinking, if I get elected tomorrow, I can just go there, dip my hands in, and squander it paying subsidy."
Morka described such an approach as irresponsible, insisting that the government’s economic reforms were aimed at addressing structural problems and creating a sustainable economy.
