Economic Growth Are Not Just Measured By Paper Presentation - Dalung To President Tinubu

Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has sent a message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the President’s Independence Day address to Nigerians on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Dalung, who spoke during an interview on Channels Television, reflected on some of the economic issues raised in the President’s speech and stressed that government’s economic achievements should ultimately be felt by ordinary citizens.

During the interview, Dalung appeared to place emphasis on the difference between economic figures presented by government and the actual conditions experienced by Nigerians.

He argued that economic growth should not only be discussed through statistics, indices and official presentations, but should also be measured by the extent to which citizens experience improvements in their daily lives.

According to Dalung, the success of economic policies should be reflected in the general well-being of the population. He stated that Nigerians should be able to feel the impact of economic growth through improved living conditions, greater purchasing power, access to essential services and other tangible benefits.

In his words, “Economic growth are not just measured by paper presentation no, these indices must translate into general well being of the citizens.”

Dalung’s statement came shortly after President Tinubu delivered his Independence Day speech, during which the President highlighted several developments and challenges confronting the Nigerian economy.

The President spoke about the progress recorded under his administration, including developments in inflation, foreign reserves, the foreign exchange market and other areas of the economy
