Uganda’s Ministry of Health Says Country Has No Ebola Cases Following Report Involving Woman Who Travelled to Nigeria
Uganda’s Ministry of Health has urged the public to remain calm and vigilant following reports of a confirmed Ebola case involving a Nigerian woman who travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for business.
In a public statement dated October 20, 2026, the ministry disclosed that preliminary findings showed the woman passed through Uganda in early October without symptoms before developing them after arriving in Nigeria.
However, Ugandan authorities stressed that her transit through the country does not establish that she contracted the virus there, noting that investigations into the source of exposure are ongoing.
The statement also revealed that Nigerian authorities had yet to provide detailed information about the woman’s travel itinerary and clinical history, which are considered necessary for further investigations and possible contact tracing.
“We wish to clarify that, as at the time of this statement, Uganda has NO confirmed active Ebola cases,” the ministry stated.
The Ugandan government added that it had maintained limited provisions for humanitarian and diplomatic travel but would strengthen health screening and other preventive measures at entry points in collaboration with relevant agencies.
It also called on residents to avoid panic, remain alert and practise regular handwashing and sanitisation as part of efforts to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
“The Ministry will continue to share verified updates through its official channels,” the statement added.
