Fire Guts Customs Marine Command Office in Lagos

A fire outbreak has destroyed property worth millions of naira at the Nigeria Customs Service Western Marine Command office in Apapa, Lagos.

The incident occurred at about 10:23 Monday morning, reportedly following an electrical surge in the conference room, before spreading to other sections of the building.

Officers on duty reportedly made efforts to contain the fire before personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at about 10:45 a.m. to put out the flames.

The Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Timothy Jonah, who had just assumed duty at the command, described the incident as unfortunate.

Jonah said the command would set up a committee to investigate the cause of the fire, while measures would also be taken to strengthen safety protocols and prevent a recurrence.

He commended officers on duty for their swift response and their collaboration with the fire service in containing the situation.
