Presidency Breaks Silence On Tinubu’s Whereabouts, Replies Peter Obi
According to a report by DAILY POST on Monday 28 September 2026, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has voiced his disapproval of President Bola Tinubu's extended vacation from the nation, but the Presidency has ignored his concerns.
Obi had attacked the president for missing the 81st UN General Assembly in New York and questioned his whereabouts.
Bayo Onanuga, spokesman for the president, responded by saying that Tinubu was still very much involved in government even if he was outside of Nigeria.
As Onanuga pointed out, the president doesn't need to be physically present in Abuja to carry out his duties thanks to contemporary technology.
He said that President Tinubu had continued to have meetings and participate in activities related to Nigeria's economic interests while on holiday, therefore it was more like a work trip.
Efforts related to the planned $7 billion deep-sea port project in Ogun Waterside allegedly included Tinubu's recent meeting with French businessmen.
Noting that not only was Tinubu absent from the UNGA, but so were South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the presidential spokesperson went on to contest the criticism levelled against Tinubu.
