Tinubu: Nigeria Reducing Dependence on Oil Revenue, Pursues Diversified Economy

According to Channels Television News on October 6, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Nigeria is gradually reducing its dependence on oil revenue by promoting agriculture, manufacturing, digital technology and the creative industries.

Tinubu made the statement in Abuja during the fifth anniversary of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), where he was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The President said improved crude oil production, supported by security agencies, operators, host communities and the NUPRC, had strengthened Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector and renewed investor confidence.

He described the oil and gas industry as an important source of energy, foreign exchange and investment for the broader economy. Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Nigeria a preferred destination for hydrocarbon investment.
