PRESS STATEMENT

THE END OF AN ERA – THE ETERNAL LEGACY OF A LEGEND

The news of the peaceful transition of our revered patriarch, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, at the glorious age of 100, has cast a solemn yet reflective shadow across Yorubaland, Ondo State, and the entire Nigerian progressive family. Born on 11 May 1926 in Uso, in present-day Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Baba was a full-fledged son of Owo-Ose soil. By that birthright, he remains forever one of us – a true Owo-Ose man whose roots ran deep in the land that produced him and whose life elevated the name of our constituency.

Baba lived a fulfilled life. He came. He saw. He conquered. He created a pathway to endless progressivism.

His longevity was no accident. It was the natural fruit of a life marked by excellence, discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to righteousness. In an age when compromise often masquerades as pragmatism, Pa Fasoranti stood as living proof that a righteous life is the surest foundation for long years and enduring honour. He walked the narrow path of principle and, by the grace of God, was granted a full century to witness the fruits of his labour.

As an educationist of distinction, he shaped young minds and founded institutions that continue to serve generations. As Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State under the progressive administration of Governor Michael Adekunle Ajasin (1979–1983), he helped lay the financial and developmental foundations of our state at a critical moment in its history. His stewardship reflected the Awolowo vision of free education, accessible healthcare, rural development, and genuine care for the ordinary citizen. He lived and fought for the poor – not with empty slogans, but with concrete policies and personal examples.

In the dark years of military dictatorship, Baba stood firm as a pro-democracy activist. He risked life and liberty in the struggle to restore civilian rule and defend the mandate of the people. His voice was consistent, his courage quiet but unyielding. Later, as a foremost leader of Afenifere – the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation rooted in progressive ideals – he became a moral compass for Yoruba interests, true federalism, social justice, and good governance. We will sorely miss his progressive politics, his measured counsel, and the moral authority he brought to every debate. Yet we are consoled by the good works and legacies he leaves behind – legacies that no death can erase.

Today, Pa Reuben Fasoranti has transcended mortality and joined the company of the saints and the great progressive titans who went before him. He has entered immortality. We can only be proud of his memories. While we mourn, we also celebrate. While we feel the absence of his physical presence, we pick up the baton he has passed to us.

As the APC Candidate for Owo-Ose Federal Constituency, I join millions of our people in paying this solemn tribute. On behalf of the good people of Owo-Ose, the progressive family, and all who hold the ideals of justice and service dear, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Fasoranti family, especially his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the entire household. May the Almighty God grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

Baba has gone home, but his light remains. His example challenges us to live with integrity, to serve the people without self-interest, and to keep the flame of progressive politics burning bright.

Rest in perfect peace, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti.

Your memory is blessed.

Your legacy is eternal.
