According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has said opposition political parties in Nigeria cannot afford to remain complacent as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
He expressed concern over the political atmosphere surrounding opposition parties, noting that the approaching elections have created circumstances that require them to remain alert and prepared for possible challenges.
According to him, opposition parties must pay close attention to developments within the political system as they prepare to participate in the forthcoming electoral contest.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he discussed the position of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PRP national chairman addressed concerns about the political environment and the difficulties confronting parties seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
His comments focused on the need for opposition parties to remain conscious of the activities and strategies of other political actors as the election period approaches.
During the interview, Baba-Ahmed accused the APC of engaging in political practices that could place opposition parties at a disadvantage.
He argued that the ruling party should not be regarded as entirely free from controversial political tactics, particularly in the competition for power.
