APC To Report Wike To Tinubu Over Rift With Party Governors
According to a report by Leadership Newspaper on Saturday, September 26, 2026, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is reportedly considering raising the disagreement between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and some APC governors with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu when the President returns to Nigeria.
The disagreement centres on Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, a political platform that he says is focused on mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 presidential election. However, some APC governors have expressed concerns that the coalition could affect the party’s candidates in governorship and legislative elections.
The Progressive Governors Forum, which represents APC governors, has previously stated that its members would not support political arrangements capable of weakening the party or its candidates. The position was communicated by Imo State Governor and chairman of the forum, Hope Uzodimma.
The governors have maintained that their priority is to support candidates officially sponsored by the APC at both state and federal levels.
Wike, however, has insisted that his support for Tinubu’s presidential bid does not prevent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of which he remains a member, from presenting candidates for other elections.
“What I said and stand for is that I will mobilise support for the re-election of the President. I never promised anyone that PDP will not field candidates,” Wike said.
The FCT minister has also criticised some APC governors who oppose his political platform, accusing them of being “politically lazy” and arguing that they should concentrate on supporting Tinubu rather than determining how other political actors should mobilise support for the President.
